Hunting Park Revitalization
The Fairmount Park Conservancy and Fairmount Park have initiated the first ever comprehensive plan for historic Hunting Park. With the landscape architectural firm of Wells Appel leading the design and community engagement process, the plan (to be completed in the fall of '09 with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society) will provide a framework for improvements, a strategy to implement them over time, and the creation of a park advocacy organization. The project recognizes the importance of creating a safe and well-maintained park, which will provide a place for healthy recreation for children and families, bring neighbors together, and serve as a catalyst for neighborhood renewal. Landscape Architecture students undertake year-long design project for Cape May, New Jersey
As director of the senior landscape architecture design studio at Temple University, Stu Appel has enrolled 27 of his students in a year long design project with the City of Cape May New Jersey. The students’ design process will engage the community in a series of workshops and public meetings and will include the redesign of Rotary and Harborview Parks, the design of a new wildlife preserve at Sewell Point, and the planning of a new City pedestrian and biking trail that will highlight and educate visitors about the regional ecology, and the city’s historic structures, and cultural landmarks.
