Philadelphia Holocaust Memorial Philadelphia, PA

Located prominently at the corner of the Ben Franklin Parkway and 16th Street, this historic monument will remain in its present location and be enhanced by the design of a public plaza and memorial garden.

Changes to the quarter-acre urban parcel include replacing a grassy area with a formal garden; new furniture; and installation of an interpretive version of the Western Wall. Done in golden tones with cascading waterfalls, the Wall will become a canvas for select Jewish quotations. In recognition of the parkway context, granite columns will define the space, providing a sense of arrival and a medium for interpretive text, graphics and interactive media.

The plaza, an open space off the Parkway, will accommodate those who gather on Yom Hashoah, the annual Holocaust memorial day of remembrance, and tour groups. It will also provide a venue for class lectures and a choice vantage point for viewing the Monument to the Six Million Jewish Martyrs.
