Nemours Mansion Garden Restoration Wilmington, DE

The landscape restoration and maintenance report and the subsequent restoration of Nemours Mansion’s 300 acres of gardens and grounds were the by-products of a campus master plan commissioned in 2001 for the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, during which the mansion was recognized as a key facility and promotional asset deserving of individual attention.

The chief project goal was to restore the formal gardens and follies to their original grandeur, in a manner that respected both the property’s historic and cultural integrity and the aesthetic and functional direction established by Alfred and Jessie Ball duPont. Equally important was the goal of improving the visitor experience by bringing them in through the original property entrance instead of a shuttle bus from the employee lot. Reorienting the entry sequence in this way showcased the best features of the mansion and grounds immediately upon arrival.
