Longwood Gardens East Conservatory Plaza Kennett Square, PA
This project involves the design and construction of the East Conservatory’s plaza and garden. Project elements include the design of a paved plaza, grassy terraced seating, the use of stormwater as an amenity,and subterranean restrooms that will use walls of orchids and ferns to recycle gray water. The new features will provide outdoor performance space and extend the experience of the Conservatory outdoors, as well as educate visitors on the aesthetic potential of sustainable practices. Wells Appel is currently developing this design with Kim Wilkie Associates of England (http://www.kimwilkie.com/).
