League Island Park at the Navy Yard Philadelphia, PA

League Island Park, a 2.5-acre parcel between 11th and 12th Streets on Constitution Avenue, will provide another major amenity within the historic Navy Yard district. Physically located north of the original League Island, the park is intended to celebrate the islands origins. An expansive stormwater collection system designed as a constructed wetland will edge the central mounded lawn oval. A footbridge will lead pedestrians from the perimeter walking paths to the “island”. Recycled materials play a major role in the design including decorative wood pilings as lighting features, pier slabs for seating and ground shells from the Delaware River as impervious paving.
