Christ Church Philadelphia, PA

Known as "The Nation's Church" because of the famous Revolution-era leaders who worshiped here, Christ Church was founded in 1695. Today, the Christ Church North Garden and Columbarium is a meditative and tranquil space for one of Philadelphia’s most historic landmarks. With the need to introduce of a new accessible garden entrance to the Church from Neighborhood House on American Street, the Garden Committee of the Church recognized an opportunity to redesign their historic garden.

Wells Appel is preparing a new garden plan, which captures the spirit of the Church and Memorial Ground. By saving the historic and healthy components of the landscape, our goals are to introduce appropriate low maintenance plants reflective of the revolutionary period, in a manner that will provide screening to the north, allow views into the garden from 2nd and American Streets, while maintaining the serenity of place used and appreciated by members of the church, tourists, and the general public.
